Canadian indie pop band Stars is hinting that their upcoming tour could be their last.
“No, really. This year may very well be the last chance you have to see us play,” read a tweet on Tuesday. “Fair warning.”
When a fan asked why, Stars replied: “People don’t buy art anymore.”
Next month’s tour stops in Moncton, Halifax and Fredericton followed by 10 U.S. cities. The band is also booked for an Aug. 2 show at Wanderlust Whistler in B.C.
Formed in Toronto, Stars has released a string of albums and EPs since 2001, including last year’s There Is No Love in Fluorescent Light. The band has earned a pair of Juno Award nominations and was twice in the running for the Polaris Prize.
A tweet from Stars on Tuesday read: “If your business had a few million customers but it couldn't make a profit, what would that tell you about the business you were in? That's where bands like us find themselves. Novelists, theatres, all art; All of us slowly going extinct while platforms make billions. Think on it.”
We won't be here forever, you know.
