British singer-songwriter James Arthur is being sued for copyright infringement by The Script.
The Irish band claims Arthur’s 2016 smash hit “Say You Won’t Let Go” rips off their 2008 song “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved."
Arthur’s co-writers on the track, Neil Ormandy and Steve Solomon, are also named as defendants in the lawsuit.
Last year, Arthur reportedly denied he copied The Script’s song.
“It’s 2017, there’s only seven notes in music,” he told The Sun, according to reports. “Every blues song sounds the f**king same. People get wound up about these things for no reason.”
The lawsuit is seeking millions in royalties and damages.
Arthur, 30, won The X Factor UK in 2012 and released several hit singles before becoming embroiled in controversy over homophobic lyrics. iTunes offered refunds to people who bought his album.
“Say You Won’t Let Go” was Arthur’s comeback single.
