Rising country/rock star Jelly Roll says he is unable to play concerts outside of the U.S. because of his criminal record.

Speaking to Jon Bon Jovi for Interview Magazine, the artist, whose real name is Jason DeFord, explained that he and his legal team are trying to work out a way for him to leave his home country to play shows for his growing international fan base.

After Bon Jovi asked him if he had taken his show overseas yet, Jelly Roll explained, "Not yet. I’m so excited. We’re figuring out the final pieces of some legal puzzles for me to get overseas."

He continued, "It’s funny, America has finally agreed to let me leave and give me a passport, but some countries won’t let me come because of my felonies. We’re working on that. I think it’s going to work in my favour."

Jelly Roll is currently in the middle of a U.S. tour that does not include any Canadian dates. According to multiple interviews, he says he isn't allowed to play shows in countries such as Australia, the UK and Canada, despite the fact that he could sell out arenas. He discussed this in an interview with CBS Sunday Morningearlier this year.

In 2016, he was on his way to play a show in Canada and was turned away at the border. He updated his fans on Facebook, saying, "Sorry Canada they wont let us in 😩."
