Jessie Reyez, Kaytranada and Caribou are among the artists with albums on the 2020 Polaris Music Prize Short List.
The award honours the best Canadian album released in the year that ended May 31, 2020. A jury of 201 considered 223 eligible albums and compiled a list of 40 finalists last month before announcing the 10 finalists on Wednesday.
The Weeknd’s After Hours and albums from Daniel Caesar, William Prince, Sarah Harmer and Owen Pallett were among the Long List selections.
Last month, Reyez’s Before Love Came To Kill Us and Caribou's Suddenly were named by Billboard as among the 50 best albums of 2020 so far.
The winning artist, to be announced Oct. 19, receives $50,000 and each of the nine finalists gets $3,000.
Last year’s Polaris Prize went to Toronto rapper Haviah Mighty's 13th Floor.
