Canada’s Walk of Fame will pay tribute to Jessie Reyez later this year, it was announced Thursday.
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter from Toronto will receive the Allan Slaight Honour, which recognizes young artists making an impact in the music industry.
“I’m very grateful for receiving this recognition, especially at home, and for getting this moment to pause and reflect and be thankful,” Reyez said, in a release. “I’ve had so many people positively influence me in our music community, so to be a recipient for something that celebrates positive influence and inspiration is an honour.”
In addition to recording her own hits like “Figures,” Reyez has been featured on Calvin Harris’ “Hard to Love” and two tracks on Eminem’s album Kamikaze. She also co-wrote the Calvin Harris hits “One Kiss” (ft. Dua Lipa) and “Promises” (ft. Sam Smith).
Earlier this year, she was named Breakthrough Artist at the Juno Awards.
Previous award winners include Drake, Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd and Brett Kissel.
“Jessie is such a great example of the spirit of the Allan Slaight Honour,” said Canada’s Walk of Fame CEO Jeffrey Latimer, in a release. “Her music, work ethic, success and unlimited potential for the future show other young Canadian musicians what is possible.”
Reyez will receive the honour at the Canada’s Walk of Fame Awards on Dec. 1 in Toronto. The show will air later that month on CTV. This year's inductees include singer-songwriter Andy Kim and the late Leonard Cohen.
