Country singer Jo Dee Messina is back with a new single, “Bigger Than This,” which she debuted on Saturday night with a performance on Huckabee.
The inspirational single comes after a string of hardships hit Messina all at once last year. She was diagnosed with cancer, was forced to cancel her tour, and was separating from her husband. The country star quickly became a newly-single mother to her two sons, 8-year-old Noah and 5-year-old Jonah.
"In the summer of 2017, I was facing struggles with my health, personal life and finances. It seemed like everything was crashing in around me," she explained in a statement on her website. "My heart was really moved, not to focus on the chaos of life, but the bigness of God. At that point and from that place of praise and worship came this song."
“Bigger Than This” speaks of feeling overwhelmed with "waves crashing in" and "darkness surrounding," before moving into an uplifting chorus: "My God is bigger than this, His love is greater.”
Messina climbed her way to the No. 1 spot on the charts in the mid-90s with hits like "Bye Bye," "I'm Alright" and a Tim McGraw duet "Bring on the Rain." Her last studio album, Me, was released in 2014.
