John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen took off early Wednesday morning on a flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo – but not after an adventure that Teigen chronicled on social media.
“A flying first for me: 4 hours into an 11 hour flight and we are turning around because we have a passenger who isn’t supposed to be on this plane” she tweeted Tuesday night. “Why…why do we all gotta go back, I do not know.”
This was the first series in a series of tweets updating Teigen’s 9.2 million followers.
“So many questions and I have no answers. Either do they. This person must be mortified though.”
Teigen seemed to take the delay in stride – “I don’t know why I’m not more upset about this. The pleasure I get out of the story is worth more to me than a direct flight to Tokyo,” she admitted – but was anxious for an explanation.
“I won’t be able to sleep until I know how this person figured out they were on the wrong flight,” she tweeted. “That’s all I ask. 150 people have been majorly inconvenienced, please, just tell me.
“Why did we all get punished for this one person’s mistake? Why not just land in Tokyo and send the other person back? How is this the better idea, you ask? We all have the same questions.”
Teigen said the passenger in question reportedly had a ticket issued by another airline. “SO basically the boarding pass scanner is just a beedoop machine that makes beedoop noises that register to nowhere,” she joked.
Eight hours and 20 minutes after taking off from LAX, Teigen and Legend were back at LAX. She said police interviewed passengers who were seated around the passenger.
The famous couple was moved to a lounge, where Teigen joked about how the government was using Real Housewives to keep her quiet. She said no one would answer her questions about the incident.
In a statement, All Nippon Airways said the pilot was notified after the flight crew discovered that one passenger boarded the incorrect flight. “As part of the airline's security procedure, the pilot in command decided to return to the originating airport, where the passenger was disembarked.”
Eventually Teigen and Legend boarded another flight bound for Tokyo.
“Drinking Chrissy would be very mad. Sober Chrissy is forgiving and patient.”
