John Legend on Sunday became one of only 15 people to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
The 39-year-old is the first male singer to join the exclusive EGOT club and the only singer other than Rita Moreno. He’s also the first black man to earn EGOT status.
At the Creative Arts Emmys, Legend won for co-producing Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert, which aired last season on NBC.
“Before tonight, only 12 people had won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competitive categories. Sirs Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and I joined that group when we won an Emmy for our production of their legendary show Jesus Christ Superstar,” Legend wrote on Instagram. "So happy to be part of this team. So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ. So amazed to be in such rarefied air.”
Legend has racked up 10 Grammys during his career, collected the Oscar for Original Song for “Glory” from Selma, and picked up a Tony for co-producing the play Jitney.
The Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che, air Sept. 17 on CTV.
