Mark David Chapman, the man who fatally shot John Lennon four decades ago, has been denied parole for the 11th time.
New York State Department of Corrections officials said Wednesday that Chapman, 65, was interviewed by a parole board on Aug. 19. Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, who witnessed the murder, once again submitted written statements to the board opposing parole.
Chapman is serving 20 years to life at Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, NY – about two hours south of Toronto. He shot Lennon four times outside the former Beatle’s Manhattan apartment on Dec. 8, 1980, hours after Lennon autographed an album for him.
In 2010, he said he did it so he could “become somebody” and if it had not been Lennon it would have been another celebrity.
Chapman is eligible for another parole hearing in August 2022.
