When John Mayer drops the final wave of The Search for Everything, the LP might raise some eyebrows as it will include material that was inspired by his breakup with Katy Perry.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the 39-year-old singer/songwriter explained that the studio effort serves as the first time he actually put his true emotions on the line.
"I actually, for the first time in my life, believe I recorded exactly what I was feeling," he said of the heartbreak he experienced following his split with the pop star in 2014.
"It was the only time in my life that sadness was like a lucid dream, like, 'Oh, I'm here. I got no business trying to get out of this, because it won't work.' It was like learning to live in the wilderness."
Speaking of writing about famous exes, it's heavily rumoured that Mayer wrote his 2002 hit "Your Body is a Wonderland" about Jennifer Love Hewitt and "Paper Doll" in response to Taylor Swift's own "Dear John."
