Canadian music icon Joni Mitchell has reportedly approved of a plan to name a Saskatoon promenade in her honour.

Mayor Charlie Clark said Thursday that council will vote on the proposed tribute at River Landing, overlooking the South Saskatchewan River, on Monday.

“It seemed like a good fit,” Clark told reporters. “It’s something that she supports and feels comfortable as the right type of recognition.

“It feels timely to really, finally recognize this incredible woman in our city.”

Although born in Alberta, Mitchell spent her early years in Saskatoon. But, the singer has publicly shared her distaste for the city’s previous attempts to honour her and once called Saskatoon “extremely bigoted.”

Mitchell, 74, has been out of the spotlight since she suffered a brain aneurysm at her home in Los Angeles in March 2015.
