Canadian music icon Joni Mitchell made a rare public appearance Saturday night at the annual Clive Davis pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles.
Mitchell hasn’t been seen out and about since she suffered a brain aneurysm in March 2015.
According to reports, the 73-year-old singer-songwriter was escorted to the event by director Cameron Crowe.
Mitchell was dressed in formal black and sat in a wheelchair.
“Everyone here is in your debt,” Davis said to Mitchell.
She was honoured at the event with a performance by her longtime friend, singer Judy Collins, who sang "Both Sides Now."
“We made a huge, enormous difference [in the ‘60s], and Joni’s music lit up our lives," Collins recalled, before referring to the election last November of Donald Trump. "Joni’s music lifted us in the ‘60s, and it will and has and will continue to do so, as we go back and perhaps just continue being active, being aware, doing everything that we can to bring us back to our senses — and to never, ever, let tyrants and bullies anywhere, in or out of the government, rule our lives."
During her long career, Mitchell won nine Grammy Awards from 16 nominations.
