Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has revealed that he recently battled cancer.
Speaking to Revolver in April for an article that was published Monday, the 50-year-old shared that he was diagnosed with cancer last year. He did not share any details but said surgery to remove it was successful.
“Cancer is just the cherry on top of an interesting time period, you know? I'm extremely thankful that I'll get through this, and I'll look back at this as something that's fu**ked up — but will have made me better,” Homme said. “I’m cool with that. There's a lot of stuff I want to do. And there's a lot of people I want to do that with.”
The cancer fight came following his nasty split from singer Brody Dalle in 2019 and subsequent battle for custody of their children. (According to Revolver, the children are in the care of Homme and his parents until a hearing later this year.)
“There were times I almost didn't make it. It's OK for me to ruminate on that. It's not OK to stay there, feel too sorry for myself,” said Homme. “This has been the darkest four years of my life. But that's OK, too.”
Queens of the Stone Age will release their eighth studio album, In Times New Roman, on Friday. The band is set to play Toronto’s Budweiser Stage on Aug. 4 and Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum on Oct. 3.
