Juice WRLD’s Legends Never Die had the biggest week of any album this year to earn a spot at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the rapper’s posthumous album earned 497,000 equivalent album units, beating the 444,000 earned by The Weeknd’s After Hours in April.
Legends Never Die had the biggest week for a hip-hop album since Travis Scott’s Astroworld in 2018.
The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums in the U.S. based on sales and streaming. The chart, dated July 25, will be published online Tuesday.
Juice WRLD, whose real name was Jarad Higgins, died last December from an overdose of oxycodone and codeine. He was 21. His previous album, 2019’s Death Race for Love, also debuted at No. 1.
Legends Never Die bumped another posthumous album – Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon – from the No. 1 spot on the chart. The album features contributions by Marshmello, Halsey and others.
