Justin Bieber has cash waiting for him at home in Canada.
The 22-year-old pop star can make a claim for $5.74 he left in his childhood bank account at a CIBC branch in Stratford, Ont.
The balances of accounts that have been inactive for 10 years are transferred to the Bank of Canada, which holds on to the funds for 30 years. At the end of 2015, the Bank of Canada had 1.7 million unclaimed balances totalling around $626 million.
Bieber’s funds were transferred in 2013 because his last transaction was on Sept. 8, 2003 — four years before he moved to Atlanta with his mother to pursue his music career.
The account was set up for Bieber when he lived in the Kapelle Circle Apartments in the north end of Stratford. The bank was a short walk from his elementary school.
Bieber can collect his forgotten cash simply by making a claim online — but with an estimated net worth of $250 million, we’re guessing he won’t bother. This means the $5.74 will go into his native country’s coffers at the end of 2043.
