Five years ago, Justin Bieber was caught on video peeing in a mop bucket. Now he’s being celebrated for breaking his own streaming record.
According to the Guinness World Records, the remix of “Despacito” featuring the Canadian pop star was the most-streamed song as of May 2018. The Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee hit with additional vocals by Bieber was streamed nearly 5 billion times worldwide.
The song beat Bieber’s 2015 solo hit “Sorry,” which held the record with 4.3 billion streams.
The achievement will be featured in the 2019 edition of the Guinness World Records book, which will be published Sept. 6.
Other music stars setting records include Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry and BTS.
Sheeran has the best-selling digital track of all time (“Shape of You”) and top album (Divide) while Swift’s video for “Look What You Made Me Do” earned the title of most-watched music video in a 24-hour period.
Gomez is recognized for having the most Instagram followers and Perry has the record for being the first to reach 100 million Twitter followers.
Guinness said BTS set the record for the most average retweets.
