Justin Bieber will be the musical guest on the Feb. 8 episode of Saturday Night Live, the show announced Tuesday.
It will be the Canadian singer’s first appearance on SNL in seven years. RuPaul will host.
During a 2018 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, former SNL cast members Jay Pharaoh and Bill Hader were asked to name the show’s worst-behaved guest host or musical guest.
“We both know, dawg,” replied Pharaoh. Hader added: “Yeah, it was Bieber.”
Bieber was both host and musical guest on the Feb. 9, 2013 episode of SNL. (He had previously been a musical guest in 2010.)
“He was in a bad place,” Hader recalled. “Maybe he’s in a better place. But back then… it was rough.”
Hader said most guests on SNL are on their best behaviour. “Everyone’s usually very excited. Bieber’s the only one, in my experience. He just seemed exhausted, or just at the end of a rope.”
Bieber will be the first Canadian musical guest in Season 45 and the first since Shawn Mendes on May 4, 2019.
He recently released "Yummy," the lead single from his forthcoming album, and announced a tour that includes stops on Sept. 1 in Ottawa, Sept. 3 in Quebec City, Sept. 10 in Toronto and Sept. 14 in Montreal.
