Justin Bieber announced on New Year’s Eve that his 2020 comeback is set to include a 10-episode docuseries that will premiere Jan. 27 on YouTube.
“When I was getting started, YouTube provided me a platform and a community where I could share music, experiences and moments with my fans,” the Canadian singer said, in a release. “It feels great to partner with YouTube for this original documentary series. I want my fans to be part of this journey.”
Justin Bieber: Seasons, directed by Michael D. Ratner, will roll out new episodes on Mondays and Wednesdays. The series promises "an intimate look into the past few years of his life. From the joys of marriage to the struggles through difficult seasons, Justin opens up to reveal his biggest challenges as he gets back into the studio to record his first album since 2015."
In a trailer for the series, Bieber explains: “We go through so many ups and downs. So many good seasons, bad seasons.”
According to Variety, YouTube paid as much as $2.6 million per episode. The platform has previously streamed original content from Ariana Grande, Mark Ronson, Demi Lovato and Coldplay.
Bieber is currently the most popular artist on YouTube, with 47.8 million subscribers and more than 19 billion views on his channel. His 2011 feature documentary and concert film, Never Say Never, raked in $129 million at the box office and the 2013 follow-up Believe grossed $42 million.
On Christmas Eve, the 25-year-old pop star also shared news that he is releasing “Yummy,” the lead single from his fifth studio album (and first since 2015’s Purpose), on Jan. 3. Bieber also announced a North American tour that will kick off in May and stop in Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto and Montreal in September.
Bieber hasn’t released any solo singles since 2016. He teamed up with BloodPop on 2017’s “Friends” and collaborated with Ed Sheeran for this year’s “I Don’t Care” and with Dan + Shay on “10,000 Hours.” He is also featured on a remix of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy.”
