Canadian hip-hop pioneer k-os says Drake paid for him to make a new record with "duffel bags of cash."
Stopping by the iHeartRadio Canada studio earlier this week, the Toronto native (real name Kevin Brereton) told host Myles Galloway all about how Drake became an investor in what will be his seventh studio album.
"Drake paid for my new record and it's coming out in August," he revealed. "You guys should listen to it because he has good taste. And I like what Drake likes."
Thanks to former MuchMusic VJ Matte Babel, k-os was able to reconnect with Drizzy, who wanted to know what he was currently up to.
"[Drake] is a very, very good friend. Because we've been friends for a long time," he explained. "And Matte Babel, one of his managers who's one of my best friends, he connected us."
The two eventually met up at a club a couple years ago, where k-os filled Drake in on his next project.
"He was like, 'What are you doing now? Send me some music.' And [so] I sent him a song, he hearted the thing and he's like, 'Look, I'm going to pay for your next record.'"
What k-os didn't realize was that when Drake says he'll pay for your music he means he will give you it in cold, hard cash.
"My little brother showed up at his house and he gave my brother duffel bags of cash," k-os said "It was just so funny. It's like, 'Just transfer it.' 'No, you got to get a duffel bag.' And he knew my brother would freak out. He was like, 'Dude, I've never seen that much money in my life."
While no release date has been announced just yet, k-os says he's currently sitting on the record right now, waiting to release it after August 15, when he drops the re-release of his 2006 classic, Atlantis: Hymns for Disco.
