Presidential hopeful Kamala Harris has now entered her "brat" era.
The current Vice President of the United States has announced her bid to run for POTUSA in the wake of President Joe Biden stepping down from the race yesterday (July 21), and she has already received celebrity endorsements - including the all-important Charli XCX co-sign.
Charli tweeted that "kamala IS brat," referencing her latest album brat, which has inspired one of the biggest online trends of the year: "brat summer."
Immediately identifying the cultural impact that tweet could have on the presidential campaign, someone from Harris's team uploaded "kamala hq" in brat's now famous fluorscent green cover template to the official X account. (It has since been removed for the more "presidential" slogan of "Let's win this.")
In an interview with BBC's Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw last month, Charli XCX explained that the "brat summer" movement "can be sooo trashy... A pack of cigs, and a Bic lighter, and a strappy white top with no bra. That’s kind of all you need.”
While Harris might not choose to drive her presidential bid using the "brat summer" ethos, she is already racking up the celebrity support.
In addition to Charli XCX, Ariana Grande, Cher, John Legend, Demi Lovato and more have thrown their support behind Harris since her announcement.
Cardi B, a well-known fan of Joe Biden, showed her approval for Harris, writing, "AHAHAHAHA LETS GOOOOO I TOLD YALLL KAMALA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE 2024 candidate."
