Kanye West this week addressed the controversial comments he made earlier this year about slavery.
“I don't know if I properly apologized for how that slave comment made people feel,” the rap star said during an interview with iHeartRadio station 107.5 WGCI FM in Chicago. “So, I want to take this moment right now to say that I'm sorry ... for people who felt let down by that moment."
He added: "It’s not something for me to overly intellectualize. This is something about the fact that it hurt people’s feelings and the way that I presented that piece of information. I could present in a way, more calm way, but I was ramped up. And I apologize."
In May, West appeared on TMZ Live and suggested slavery “sounds like a choice.”
He added: “When you hear about slavery for 400 years ... like, you was there for 400 years and it's all of y'all?! It's like we're mentally in prison.”
In the new radio interview, West said the furor that followed “showed me how much black people love me and how much black people count on me and depend on me, and I appreciate that.”
He also promised “a new Ye.”
