Kanye West took to social media on Tuesday to celebrate “election results” from a Kentucky NBC station showing that he is beating Joe Biden and Donald Trump in that state in the race for president.
Of course, West should have realized the U.S. election is not until Nov. 3.
“GET THE WEST WING READY !!! ,” tweeted the rapper, who posted a screen grab of the numbers that showed him in third place – behind Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen and independent Brock Pierce – with 19 percent of the votes. “This is how I felt when I saw that Kentucky pole (sic) result.”
In another tweet, he wrote: “PEOLE (sic) TRIED TO TALK ME OUT OF RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT... NEVER LET WEAK CONTROLLING PEOPLE KILL YOUR SPIRIT.”
The Kentucky NBC affiliate’s LEX 18 News quickly pointed out the screenshot West shared was a set of test election results from a cached web link posted four months ago.
“The old link was still populating current [Associated Press] data and showed test results, which is part of the preparation the AP does in advance of elections,” read a tweet from LEX 18 News. “The results shown were not valid. They were simply part of a test.”
Twitter slapped a “Manipulated media” warning on some of West’s celebratory tweets.
West, who announced his presidential run on July 4, is on the ballot in only 11 states.
