Kanye West was under observation at a hospital in Los Angeles Monday night, according to multiple reports.
Without identifying West, both the L.A. police and fire departments confirmed that officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call at 1:20 p.m. local time. No criminal activity was involved.
“An adult male described as medically stable was taken to an area hospital for further assessment,” spokesperson Brian Humphrey told various media outlets.
West was at the home of Canadian trainer Harley Pasternak at the time.
The L.A. Times reported that West volunteered to be treated for stress and exhaustion at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
There was no immediate comment from the rap star’s representatives.
West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, was in New York City to attend an event honouring her late father when she learned of the incident and immediately returned to Los Angeles.
Just before news broke that West had been hospitalized, his mother-in-law Kris Jenner told Extra: ”He's exhausted. He's just really tired. He’s had a grueling tour and it's been a grind, so he just needs to rest.”

Monday’s incident comes after a bizarre weekend for the rap star. On Saturday night, West walked off stage at his Sacramento concert after performing only two songs and ranting about Beyoncé and Jay Z, among others.
The following night he canceled a show in Los Angeles with only three hours notice. On Monday, promoters announced the remaining shows in West’s Saint Pablo Tour — including a Dec. 18 stop in Toronto — were cancelled.
The rapper’s Instagram account was suddenly filled with blurry images of clothes and shoes.
On Monday, fans and celebrities took to social media to offer support for West.
"People are making jokes right now," tweeted actor Emile Hirsch, "but having been there myself, I hope he gets the help he needs."
Andy Lassner, executive producer of Ellen, echoed the sentiment. "The easy thing to do is make Kanye West jokes," he tweeted. "The compassionate thing to do is hope he's ok and gets the help he needs."
ESPN sportscaster Adrienne Lawrence shared: "Regardless of how one feels about #Kanye's music, must remember he's a husband and father. Wishing him good health - mental and physical."
Singer Janele Monáe said she is praying for West. She tweeted: “PRAYING HE HAS THE RIGHT ENERGY SURROUNDING HIM DURING THIS TIME. SENDING PEACE AND LOVE.”
