Kanye West reportedly paid $110,000 for a license to use a photo of Whitney Houston’s drug-littered bathroom on the cover of rapper Pusha T's new album Daytona.
“1 a.m., my phone rings, no caller-ID,” Pusha explained on The Angie Martinez Show. “‘Hey, yeah, I think that we should change the artwork. I like this other artwork.’ Now this other artwork is 85 grand (U.S.).
"I said, ‘Hey, I don’t want to pay for that. And I wasn’t even going to ask you to pay for that. We picked what we picked. It’s here, it’s ready.’ ‘No, this what people need to see to go with this music. I’ma pay for that.’”
The photo, which appeared on the cover of an April 2006 edition of the National Enquirer, allegedly shows a bathroom in the late singer's home strewn with drugs and paraphernalia. On Pusha T's album, a beer can has been digitally removed from the image.
Houston died in 2012 of an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub. The coroner said the superstar had cocaine, cannabis and three prescription medications in her system.
