British rock band Kasabian announced Monday the departure of frontman Tom Meighan.
In a statement shared on Twitter, Kasabian said the singer is “stepping down … by mutual consent.”
It added: “Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track. We will not be commenting further.”
Meighan later tweeted: "Following today’s announcement I just wanted to let you all know that I am doing well. I’m in a really good place now. Thanks for all your love and support. I’ll be seeing you all very soon." The Sun reported that he is due in court on Tuesday on a domestic assault charge related to an alleged incident in April.
Meighan, 39, formed Kasabian in 1997 with Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Chris Karloff. They have released six studio albums since 2004, including five that topped the UK chart.
Late last month, he told Sky News that Kasabian was “still solid” but added that he was spending some of his time during the COVID-19 lockdown working on solo material.
“I'm writing loads of music at the minute. We'll see what happens. I've got a few cookies in the jar... they aint bad, you know,” said Meighan. “It's very autobiographical, like the story of my life. It's kind of… heartbreaking. Well, not heartbreaking, just to the core, you know. Very real.”
