Kate Bush has revealed that she is currently in the planning stages for her next album.
In a rare interview with BBC Radio 4's Today, the reclusive English singer admitted that she is "keen" to start working on her first new album since 2011's 50 Words For Snow.
Promoting her new short film, Little Shrew (Snowflake), a fundraising project for the charity War Child that she released today (October 25), Bush said new music is next on her to-do list, now that she's finished a number of other tasks.
“I’ve been caught up doing a lot of archive work over the last few years, redesigning our website, putting a lyric book together,” she explained. “And I’m very keen to start working on a new album when I’ve got this finished. I’ve got lots of ideas and I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space, it’s been a long time.”
Writing new music is something she has "really" been meaning to get to, she said. “Particularly the last year, I’ve felt really ready to start doing something new.”
Performing live, however, is a different story. When asked about a recent Guardian interview with David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), where he said he was trying to get her back on the stage, Bush replied, “I’m not there yet.”
She broke a 35-year hiatus in 2014 when she performed Before the Dawn, a 22-night residency at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, UK.
Kate Bush made a remarkable return to the charts across the world in 2022 after her 1985 hit "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" was featured prominently in the fourth season of Netflix's Stranger Things. The song topped the UK singles chart and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in Canada.
About the accomplishment, Bush made a rare statement, saying, “How utterly brilliant! It’s hard to take in the speed at which this has all been happening. The response to 'Running Up That Hill' is something that has had its own energy and volition. A direct relationship between the shows and their audience and one that has stood completely outside of the music business. We’ve all been astounded to watch the track explode!”
