Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards said Thursday that a former beau is coming at her for cash.
“My ex-boyfriend is attempting to suggest he will sue me for compensation for contributions he made to my music career while we dated,” she shared, in a tweet that she later deleted. “Do you think that argument is baseless if he didn't even recognize my songs when they came on the radio?”
The tweet included a “Golddigger” meme.
While Edwards didn’t name the ex in the tweet, some people assumed it was Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, whom she was dating when he co-produced her fourth studio album, 2012’s Voyageur.
Edwards replied to one person: "To be very clear that is not who I am referencing."
Voyageur was Edwards’ most successful album, reaching No. 39 on the Billboard 200 chart and peaking at No. 2 in Canada. Two years after its release, Edwards announced she was stepping back from music to open a coffee shop, Quitters, in the Ottawa suburb of Stittsville.
Edwards could be reached for comment.
