Katy Perry has surpassed Lady Gaga for the most singles to be certified Diamond in the U.S.
“California Gurls,” Perry’s 2010 collaboration with Snoop Dogg, is her fourth song to hit the milestone, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
It follows “Firework,” “Dark Horse” and “Roar.”
Diamond certification represents 10x Platinum, or 10 million sales and streams in the U.S. based on downloads and the RIAA formula of 150 streams being equal to one download.
Perry was previously tied with Gaga, whose singles “Bad Romance,” “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” are certified Diamond.
In Canada, Gaga has sold more than Perry, although neither has reached Diamond status (800,000 units), according to Music Canada.
Gaga’s “Poker Face” is 8x Platinum (640,000), “Bad Romance” is 7x Platinum (560,000) and “Just Dance” is 6x Platinum (480,000). Perry’s biggest song in Canada is “Firework,” which is certified 6x Platinum. “California Gurls” is currently certified 4x Platinum (320,000).
