While Katy Perry slowly rolls out new music from her forthcoming fifth studio album, fans are at the edge of their seats waiting for her response to Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" – if there even is one.
Entertainment Weekly asked Perry if her new record will feature any kind of clap-back to the 1989 cut, which was promoted with a star-studded music video starring Cara Delevingne, Zendaya, Karlie Kloss, and others.
"Well that’s not my question to answer – if it’s about me," Perry replied. "I think [my new album is] a very empowered record. There is no one thing that’s calling out any one person.”
In 2014, Swift told Rolling Stone that "Bad Blood" was about another female artist who "basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”
So far, Perry has offered two new songs from her next album: "Chained To The Rhythm" and "Bon Appetit.”
Perry told EW that she wrote 40 songs for the new album and downsized the tracklist to 15. Of the album's concept, she said: "It’s really quite brave. Sonically, it’s fun and dance-y and dark and light. It’s all of these things. It definitely is a change.”
She revealed that the album also features a song titled "Bigger Than Me" that was inspired by the 2016 presidential election, and a fun dance song called "Swish Swish.”
The as-yet-untitled album has yet to receive a definite release date.
