Kelly Rowland took issue with being called “beautiful” during an episode of The Voice Australia that aired Sunday.
The former Destiny’s Child singer is a coach on the competition show along with former Culture Club frontman Boy George, and Australian singers Guy Sebastien and Delta Goodrem.
Rowland and George both turned their chairs for Ricky Muscat, who chose the latter as his coach.
“I like what both of you have said. Honestly when I come up here I had no idea who I was going to choose, I was just hopeful that one person would turn,” he said.
“George, I love you. Kelly, you’re so beautiful. The coach that I am choosing is George.”
After Muscat left the stage, Rowland vented to Goodrem about the compliment.
“It is the most frustrating s**t. You know what’s so frustrating? To be called beautiful… it’s so degrading,” she explained. “It really pisses me off. Like ‘oh, you’re so cute’, or ‘you’re so pretty’. I’ve been here for 20-something years, you know what I mean?
“It’s not about… like I don’t care who he would have chose. It’s just the fact that he’s like George… and you, ‘You’re a woman, you’re pretty.’ That makes me upset. Oooh that irritates me.”
