Kesha says she’s been through hell and back but has found a new sense of self through the recording of her new album Rainbow.
The singer called in to On Air With Ryan Seacrest to talk about the release and the single “Praying.”
Kesha said the song is resonating with fans “because it’s the truth and it’s honest and it’s super vulnerable.
“And in a time when we just need some truth out there.”
Kesha said the track is a different sound for her.
“It’s a totally different animal … I’ve never put out a ballad before,” she said.
“This one I think probably surprised people. I don’t even think people knew I could sing the way I can sing — those crazy high notes — and to be honest, I didn’t really [know] either.”
Kesha revealed that she wrote the album’s title track while in rehab for an eating disorder.
“I wanted to reconnect with my childlike self which I’ve always associated with colours,” she recalled. “I kind of got stuck living in black and white.”
