Lady Gaga is ditching her stage name for the upcoming big screen remake of A Star Is Born.
The film’s director and co-star Bradley Cooper told Entertainment Weekly that the pop superstar will be credited as Stefani Germanotta, her birth name.
It’s a change for Gaga, who used her famous moniker when starring in American Horror Story.
Cooper said Gaga… er, Germanotta… insisted on singing live in A Star Is Born, in which she plays struggling performer Ally.
"There’s no singing in playback, which was terrifying, but it’s key to the movie! It makes all the difference," he told EW. "Stefani was adamant about that: she said, ‘We have to record everything live,’ and I’m so glad she did. It’s night and day."
Cooper said fans will be “blown away by what Stefani’s created.”
The movie is scheduled for release in May.
