Lady Gaga says it was her fiancé Michael Polansky who convinced her to make her next album a proper pop record.
In the new interview with Vogue, Gaga remains tight-lipped about what she calls LG7, but admits it was Polansky's idea to go pop.
“Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record," she says. "He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music.’”
“Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean in to the joy of it," Polansky adds. "On the Chromatica tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”
Gaga also discusses “Die With a Smile," her latest single with Bruno Mars, and how spontaneous things were in the studio making it.
“He asked me to come to his studio to hear something,” says Gaga. “It was around midnight when I got there and I was blown away. We stayed up all night finishing the song. Bruno and I think the world needs to hear this song. It’s some real s**t. It’s a real conversation. And it’s about love.”
However, before the album rears its head, Gaga will first co-star with Joaquin Phoenix in the much-anticipated Todd Phillips film, Joker: Folie à Deux. She tells Vogue that on top of playing the role of anti-hero Harley Quinn, she also brought a musical touch to the sequel to 2019's Joker.
“I wrote a waltz for the movie,” says Gaga. “And I had a live piano player, Alex Smith, whom I asked to be with me for my scenes. There are moments in the film where I’m playing an adult woman who sings like a little girl. And she’s moving through the world with this kind of immaturity, which I thought was interesting.”
