Lainey Wilson was the big winner at last night's 2023 CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Louisiana native took home country music's biggest award for Entertainer of the Year, along with Album of the Year for Bell Bottom Country, Female Vocalist of the Year, and both Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for HARDY's "Wait in the Truck," which she guests on.
Wilson also performed her song, “Wildflowers and Horses,” along with Jelly Roll and Wynonna Judd, who dueted on “Need a Favor,” Luke Combs, who sang “Where the Wild Things Are,” and perhaps the biggest surprise of the night, Post Malone making his country debut singing a tribute to Joe Diffie with Morgan Wallen and HARDY.
Tracy Chapman made history on the night, becoming the first Black songwriter to win Song of the Year (along with Single of the Year), thanks to Combs, who scored one of the biggest hits of the year with his cover version of "Fast Car."
“I’m sorry I couldn’t join you all tonight," Chapman said in a statement read by presenter Sarah Evans. "It’s truly an honor for my song to be newly recognized after 35 years of it’s debut. Wow. Thank you to the CMAs and a special thanks to Luke (Combs) and to all of the fans of ‘Fast Car.'"
Other notable winners on the night included Luke Combs (Single of the Year, Song of the Year), Jelly Roll (New Artist of the Year), and Chris Stapleton (Male Vocalist of the Year).
