Former NSYNC singer Lance Bass said Saturday he is “feeling heartbroken” about losing out on a chance to own a California home made famous on The Brady Bunch.
“This was a dream come true for me and I spent the night celebrating,” Bass said in a statement shared on social media, after reportedly being told by a real estate agent that he put in the winning bid.
“The next day, due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ the same agent informed us that there’s another Corporate Buyer (Hollywood studio) who wants the house at any cost.”
Bass said he was “hurt and saddened by this highly questionable outcome” and asked: “How is this fair or legal??”

The split-level ranch house, featured in exterior scenes on the TV series that ran from 1969 to 1974, was on the market for nearly $1.9 million U.S.
Bass, 39, had tweeted last Thursday that his offer was accepted. “This is going to be a fun project,” he added, referring to his plan to remodel the home’s interior to look like the TV version.
Among those offering congratulations were Christopher Knight, who played Peter on the show, and Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia. She tweeted: “May all your problems from here on our be solved in a half hour!”
Canadian design guru Jonathan Scott, of Property Brothers fame, tweeted at Bass that he was disappointed to have been outbid. “I really wanted that house,” he said, “but I’m very excited you’re taking on this project.”
In a statement, real estate company Douglas Elliman said: “Our fiduciary obligation is to the seller, who decided to go to the highest, most qualified bid.
“While we appreciate Mr. Bass and his interest in the Dilling Street property, trememdous interest in the house required a sealed, best and final bid.”
