Lauryn Hill's 1998 album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, has been named the greatest record ever made by Apple Music.
The service began rolling out its 100 Best Albums list last week, culminating with today's reveal of the top ten, which also included Michael Jackson's Thriller, The Beatles' Abbey Road, Prince's Purple Rain, and Frank Ocean's Blonde.
In a statement, Hill shared her appreciation for the honour, saying, “This is my award, but it’s a rich, deep narrative, and involves so many people, and so much sacrifice, and so much time, and so much collective love.”
Described as "a modern 21st-century ranking of the greatest records ever made," the list was compiled Apple Music’s team of experts alongside a select group of artists, songwriters, producers, and industry professionals, including Zane Lowe, global creative director and lead anchor for Apple Music 1, and Ebro Darden, global editorial head of hip-hop and R&B, as well as disco legend Nile Rodgers and singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers.
“This list isn’t a popularity contest,” Darden said in a statement. "We challenged everyone to not vote based on your favorites. You’re invited into the panel because you have music knowledge beyond what you listen to when you’re on the elliptical machine.”
