Patrick Bourgeois, singer with ‘90s Quebec band Les BB, died Sunday at 54.
On Facebook, his partner Mélanie Savard said Bourgeois succumbed to cancer.
“He delivered a tough battle to the disease, but his body couldn’t,” she wrote. “He died peacefully in my arms.”
She said Bourgeois’ “legendary sense of humour and his beautiful smile remained in him until the very end.”
Bourgeois, a father of three, shared news of his cancer with fans in a Facebook post in early 2016 and vowed to beat it.
The Montreal-born singer, along with Alain Lapointe and François Jean, released their debut album in 1989. It earned Les BB three Félix awards, including group of the year.
Snob, their 1991 sophomore album, was an even bigger commercial success but the musicians went their separate ways after releasing a third album.
Bourgeois went on to release two solo albums and recorded one with his son Ludovick, who went on to win La Voix – Quebec’s version of The Voice – this year.
A Facebook statement said a memorial will be held soon so "the public and friends will be able to gather together to commemorate this singer songwriter and director in Quebec's musical landscape for the last 30 years."
