Bell Let’s Talk Day, which this year falls on Jan. 31, is designed to end stigma and start a conversation about mental health.
It’s also a day to raise funds to support mental health initiatives across the country.
In recent years, a number of music stars have opened up about their personal battles with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses.
Among them is pop superstar Lady Gaga.
In December 2016, she admitted suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to being raped when she was 19.
"I have a mental illness and I struggle with that mental illness every day,” Gaga shared during an appearance on The Today Show.
"My own trauma in my own life has helped me to understand the trauma of others.”
Gaga said she is lucky to have to strong support network.
"The kindness that's been shown to me, by doctors as well as my family and my friends, it's really saved my life,” she said. “I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I've found that kindness is the best way.”
It's the same message Gaga has shared on Instagram. “Kindness Matters," she wrote on Instagram in October 2017. "Youth with high mental health inventory scores are significantly more likely to describe their environments as kind … So simply, #BeKind."

Previously, Gaga has revealed she suffered from crippling depression and anxiety that made her feel “like I was dying.”
In a public conversation with Prince William in April 2017, she explained: “I should be so happy, but you can't help it when in the morning you wake up, you are so tired, you are so sad, you are so full of anxiety and the shakes that you can't barely think.”
Gaga told Prince William said too many people fear speaking up.
"There's a lot of shame attached to mental illness. You feel like something it's wrong with you," she acknowledged.
The singer urged others to talk about what they are going through.
“I think it’s better when we all say: ‘Cheers!’ And ‘fess up to it,” she told the Mirror.
