No surprise here: Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” ft. Billy Ray Cyrus was this week named Billboard’s 2019 song of the summer.
The ear worm tops the annual list of the 20 most popular songs between the May long weekend and Labour Day.
Last year’s song of the summer was “In My Feelings” by Drake. This year, the Canadian rap superstar has to settle for No. 9 (“No Guidance” by Chris Brown ft. Drake) and No. 15 (“Money in the Grave” by Drake ft. Rick Ross).
Canadian talent shines on one-quarter of this year’s Summer Songs chart. In addition to Drake’s two entries, Shawn Mendes earned the No. 6 spot with his Camila Cabello collaboration “Señorita” and No. 11 with “If I Can’t Have You.”
Justin Bieber is at No. 4 with his Ed Sheehan duet, “I Don’t Care.” Songs by Billie Eilish, Lizzo and Jonas Brothers also made this year's list.
In the UK, “I Don’t Care” was named the song of the summer, followed by “Old Town Road.” Mendes and Cabello’s “Señorita” is ranked fourth and his “If I Can’t Have You” is No. 30.
