Lil Wayne is getting heat for praising U.S. president Donald Trump just days before the election.
The 38-year-old rap star, whose real name is Dwayne Carter Jr., tweeted a photo showing he and Trump smiling and giving thumbs up. Neither is wearing a mask.
Wayne said he had “a great meeting” with Trump, who was in Miami.
“Besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership,” Wayne wrote. “He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.”
On social media, comments included "Lil Wayne a trump supporter? 2020 keeps getting crazier" and "Omg Wayne I'm your biggest fan. You can't believe his lies. He hates black people and women and everyone basically aside from Ivanka. Seriously no, this is heart breaking."
Also reacting was fellow rapper 50 Cent, who tweeted: “oh no WAYNE, I WOULD HAVE NEVER TOOK THIS PICTURE.”
Last week, 50 Cent was criticized for encouraging people to vote for Trump. “I don’t care Trump doesn’t like black people,” he tweeted. Five days later, 50 Cent appeared to change his tune. “Fu*k Donald Trump,” he tweeted. “I never liked him.”
Earlier this month, rapper Ice Cube came under fire after White House senior advisor Katrina Pierson publicly thanked him for his “willingness to step up and work with” the Trump administration.
Ice Cube quickly responded to the criticism. “Every side is the Darkside for us here in America. They’re all the same until something changes for us,” he tweeted. “They all lie and they all cheat but we can’t afford not to negotiate with whoever is in power or our condition in this country will never change. Our justice is bipartisan.”
In July, Ice Cube called on political leaders to sign a “Contract with Black America” (CWBA) which proposed specific improvements to issues like police reform and bank lending. The Trump campaign incorporated some of the CWBA in its “Platinum Plan” to boost opportunities for Black communities.
Ice Cube explained that both the Republican and Democrat parties contacted him after he put out the CWBA. "Dems said we’ll address the CWBA after the election,” he explained. “Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA.”
Before the 2016 U.S. election, the rapper tweeted that he “will never endorse a mothaf**ka like Donald Trump! EVER!!!” In 2018, ahead of the mid-term U.S. elections, Ice Cube released "Arrest the President."
Rapper Lil Pump took to Instagram Live on Sunday night to slam Joe Biden’s vow to tax people making more than $400,000 U.S. “All i gotta say is Trump 2020, b**ch,” he fumed.
Pump also Photoshopped himself into a 2017 photo showing Trump shaking hands with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and captioned it: “THE DAY I MET TRUMP.”
