Lindsey Buckingham is out of Fleetwood Mac.
"The band wishes Lindsey all the best,” read a statement issued Monday, in which it was confirmed that Buckingham will not be part of an upcoming tour.
While no details were provided about Buckingham’s exit, multiple reports claim the 68-year-old was fired.
The singer-guitarist, who joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974, wrote or co-wrote hits like “Go Your Own Way,” “Second Hand News,” “Tusk” and “The Chain.” Buckingham took a decade-long hiatus from the group in 1987.
Fleetwood Mac said he will be replaced by Neil Finn of Crowded House and Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers.
“We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style," said drummer Mick Fleetwood, in the statement.
"We know we have something new, yet it's got the unmistakable Mac sound."
Buckingham last played with Fleetwood Mac in January. The last song of their set was “Go Your Own Way.”
