Lionsgate has announced it will pick up The Weeknd's forthcoming movie, Hurry Up Tomorrow, for worldwide theatrical distribution.
Hurry Up Tomorrow is set to star The Weeknd aka Abel Tesfaye (The Idol), Jenna Ortega (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), with Trey Edward Shults (Waves) directing.
Daniel Lopatin, a regular Weeknd collaborator who records under the name Oneohtrix Point Never, will compose the original score with The Weeknd.
Described as a "musically-driven psychological thriller," the film will be an extension of The Weeknd's upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, and the two projects will share a release date, which is TBD.
Tesfaye's Manic Phase, along with Reza Fahim (The Idol) will produce the film, while Ortega and Shults will also serve as executive producers.
“Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson in a statement. “With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans. We are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide.”
