Beyoncé released a surprise song on Friday – a day known in the U.S. as “Juneteenth,” the anniversary of the emancipation of slavery.
“Black Parade” dropped only hours after the superstar announced details of Black Parade Route, an online directory of black-owned businesses.
“I'm going back to the South, where my roots ain't watered down,” Beyoncé sings. (In fact, she and husband Jay-Z and their children flew to The Hamptons on Friday.)
Sharing “Black Parade” on Instagram, the singer wrote: “Happy Juneteenth Weekend! I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle. Please continue to remember our beauty, strength and power.”
