Britney Spears’ early cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” – which was reportedly the demo that landed Spears her first record deal – has surfaced.
"Britney was trying to sing like Toni Braxton, which was way too low for her. It sounded pretty awful in places,” Jive Records executive John Seabrook revealed in his book The Song Machine. "But when her voice went up high, you could hear the girlish quality, and there was something really appealing about that. I said, 'This is something we should look at seriously.'”
A brief teaser of the cover was posted on @michaeldcoogan’s Instagram, which originally was unearthed by Spears’ ex-boyfriend, Reg Jones, who was reportedly attempting to auction off the pop star’s early intimate apparel as well as her demo cassette tapes.
