Days after the death of Eddie Van Halen earlier this month, the Netherlands-born rocker was honoured in a very unique way.
Malgosia Fiebig, the carillonneur at the Dom Tower in Utrecht – about 45 minutes south of Van Halen’s native Amsterdam – played a medley of Van Halen hits on the tower’s 50 bells.
People in the streets heard “Why Can't This Be Love,” “Love Walks In” and “Jump.”
Van Halen died Oct. 6 at 65 after a battle with cancer.
The 14th century tower, which stands 112.5 metres, is currently undergoing restoration work. Fiebig is the city carillonneur of Utrecht and performs from the Dom Tower twice weekly. Listen to her tribute below:
