Chantal Kreviazuk on Friday released “Get To You,” the first taste of her forthcoming new album.
“We weren’t sure, is this the right time to put it out, with the [COVID-19] crisis?,” the singer said in an Instagram video. “Music has proven to be so healing right now so we decided, you know what, let’s just go ahead and put it out.”
The Winnipeg native sings: “Can you hear the seriousness in my voice? / I’m begging you to tell me I’m your choice every new day / Even though you chose me for your life.”
Kreviazuk, who has been married to Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida for just over 20 years, told iHeartRadio.ca last year: “Sometimes in a relationship you’re like, ‘I want my partner to say this to me now. This would feel good.’ You can’t make people say things.”
The new song is from Kreviazuk’s seventh studio album – and her first non-holiday solo collection since 2016’s Hard Sail.
The singer, who recently fell ill, said on Thursday that she tested negative for COVID-19. “Just something else that was really worrisome,” Kreviazuk explained. “It’s good to know that it wasn’t that and that I’m moving forward and I’m on the mend.”
She will perform “Get To You” and chat with fans at 7 pm ET on Friday during an Instagram Live session.
