With visions of the “Watermelon Sugar” video still fresh in our heads, Canada’s deadmau5 and The Neptunes have released another piece of fruit-flavoured ear candy, “Pomegranate.”
The funky summer tune was penned by deadmau5 (aka Ontario’s Joel Zimmerman) with The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) and recorded this past December in Miami.
“It’s shining like three seeds of pomegranates in my hands / It’s just us that’s on this beach and all this sand,” Williams sings.
The titular fruit is mentioned only once in the song, which seems to be about some kind of taboo tryst. “It’s been ooh so long / since we’ve been away from home / All the f**ks every last one gone / Blissfully, knowing this s**t wrong.”
A lyric video for “Pomegranate” will drop Thursday at noon and the track will be featured on deadmau5’s forthcoming ninth studio album – his first since 2016’s W:/2016Album/.
