Four months after revealing that she was recovering from a terrifying ordeal, Duffy shared a new song she said is “for the better days to come.”
The Welsh singer, who had a hit in 2008 with “Mercy,” posted the sombre track on Instagram on Thursday morning.
“Like a river in the sky / why oh why / do we cry?,” Duffy sings, backed only by piano.
“I am alone / afraid of the dark / she sings in the night / holds me close to my heart / my only friend / who can’t comprehend / why she visits me time and again.”
In February, Duffy addressed her long absence from the music scene. “The truth is, and please trust me I am ok and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days,” she shared. “Of course I survived. The recovery took time. There’s no light way to say it.”
Less than two months later, Duffy shared more details about the experience a decade ago. She also vowed to make music again.
"I owe it to myself to release a body of work someday, though I very much doubt I will ever be the person people once knew,” she said. "My music will be measured on the merit of its quality and this story will be something I experienced and not something that describes me.”
