A (somewhat) new single from George Michael was released Thursday, a little more than eight months after his death.

“Fantasy” isn’t a new song — it was released as the B-side of his “Freedom! 90” single — but it’s been given new life by legendary producer Nile Rodgers.

The result is a funky earworm that reminds us of the extraordinary talent of Michael, who died Christmas Day at 53.

The singer reportedly commissioned the remix shortly before his death.

Rodgers took to Twitter to acknowledge fans have mixed feelings about getting new music from Michael. “No one's heart was dragged through emotional ambiguity more than mine,” he tweeted.

The late pop superstar’s sisters said in a statement: “Our aim is to carry on, as we know [George] would have wanted, to share and enjoy his precious legacy and to continue to bring you joy – through his extraordinarily beautiful music.”
