Canadian country star Jess Moskaluke is singing the praises of small towns all across Canada in her new single “Mapdot.”
The 30-year-old CCMA winner hails from Langenburg, a Saskatchewan town of just over 1,000 people located halfway between Saskatoon and Winnipeg.
“It took me years to write this song. What I mean by that is that I’ve always wanted to write a tribute to my hometown, but I wanted to get it right,” Moskaluke explained, in a release. She penned the track with Zach Abend and Liz Rose.
“I waited until I had the right idea, the platform, and the songwriting ability to give this song, and this town, the credit it deserves. I hope when you hear this song, it makes you think about, and appreciate all the small details about what make your own hometown so special.”
In “Mapdot,” Moskaluke sings about an “easy to love, hard to find” town that has no cop (“we don’t need one”) but has a beauty shop ( “we need our hair done”).
“You might not see it,” sings Moskaluke, who recently celebrated her second anniversary with husband Clay Becker, “but everything I need is what I got in a tiny little mapdot.”
In 2017, Moskaluke told iHeartRadio.ca that she doesn’t feel a pull to Nashville or a big Canadian city.
“Where would I want to be when I’m not on the road? I want to be at home. I want to be close to my family and friends instead of away from everybody just to be close to a city,” she said.
“This is what makes sense right now, Maybe some day it won’t.”
